Basement Jaxx Mix Part A (01:05) by Basement Jaxx
In advance of their trip to Japan with The Haçienda in March 2011, Felix and Simon from Basement Jaxx here contribute a splendidly constructed mix of funk infused techno, tribal and house, interweaving diverse and eclectic records from their own productions, a few choice classics and the influences that have shaped the Jaxx over the last decade and a half.
This is the first of a two part Jaxx mix with the second also to be published on this site prior to their Haçienda Japan Tour.
With one eye on subliminal tribal grooves and the other on Latin styled flourishes and deftly worked touches, Basement Jaxx bring the carnival atmosphere they are known for to the mix as quirky, dynamic and innovative touches come to the fore in a rapid fire mixing style which is uniquely them. Swiftly and with breakneck speed cutting across their selections whilst adding deft samples and vocal hooks along with some vocals tracks, lo slung down and dirty techno and hip hop cuts, The Jaxx create a wide open, highly distinctive, musically maverick soundtrack.
Over a deep and well executed hour in the first part of this mix, a sense of fun and music mischievousness highlights the bands musical sensibilities and their command of their craft, as subtle and elegant rhythm devices and sublime techno and house touches are underpinned by a near constant barrage of drums and dancefloor shaking grooves.
