From Manchester to Japan with Love x (02:24) by Jon Dasilva
Prefacing his Manchester return on 22 April, Jon drops a versatile mix that displays his penchant for the varied shades of techno and house as well as his keen nose for sniffing out cutting edge modern producers to fit his vision and well crafted style.
The perhaps apposite sombreness of Kaseem Mosses' "Thalassocalyce" and Soulphiction's "Some Things Remain" gives way to the life affirming insistence of Chicago hi hats and Detroit bass figures. Subtly entwining and wholly individual, Dasilva’s dance floor is stalked by dark moods and distant voices. "Things aint what they used to be... sometimes things remain... and never change... constant progression... but the spirit still remains". Indeed.
The presentation is pure Dasilva, rollercoasting its way through styles without a pause for breath, with the Chicago skyscrape towering over the mix throughout. The set of Jack Trax and scattered experimental vocals raise the intensity of the mix mid-way through as Dasilva underpins the contemporary Acid House of Jared Wilson and AM-FM with the brooding funk of 6th Borough Project's "Planets" before taking the floor with the stunning Sleeping Bag/ Big Shot vocal of Azzuri and 3's "Into The Night", Prince Language's remix which slays the room in a manner that is both so New York and utterly Manchester at the same time!
Combining the rhythms and prime elements of his music’s positive education in his own remix of Paul Schulleri's "Painted Space", you can find the essence of Dasilva's set distilled... cutting edge House/Detroit stylings but ever so faintly nostalgic.
Ending on the unreleased Braille track, the yearning future funk of "The Year 3000", this closer knowingly apes the celebratory hands in the air of The Haçienda’s 2am finish whilst twisting this ritual into something much darker and foreboding. We really, really want it to be alright...
