Here in the second of his monthly memoires of early Haçienda gigs, author, journalist
and broadcaster John Robb remembers taking Alan McGee of Creation Records and a
young Jesus And Mary Chain to The Haçienda on 13 December 1984 to see Lee “Scratch”
Perry & The Upsetters.

Introducing the first in a series of monthly blogs by John Robb as he
relives the early years of the Haçienda, reminiscing in particular
about Nick Cave and The Birthday Party’s gig in 1982.

There’s a lot of myths about the Haçienda, some great some true and some repeated so often that they have become their own foul and viral truth. Perhaps the most lasting is the one about it being dead before acid house.
